Connection to external MySQL instance using Python - python

I have tried the following code:
MySQLdb.connect(host='xxx', port=3306, user='yyy')
But I get the following error:
(2005, "Unknown MySQL server host ...
I have tried to remove all firewall restrictions on the external MySQL instance, as a test. I am able to connect to the instance from my developing machine.
I believe this should be possible now that the App Engine supports sockets, or am I wrong?

You have to use localhost/127.0.0.1 or CloudSQL socket (unix_socket='/cloudsql/'):

Very Simple Can I somehow make it so that it connects only to the ip '12.34.567.891'. Google is forwarding the port to 80 but you can't request port 80 or it ends up in an endless loop.
port=null or port = none will cause and error.

I expected to be able to connect to the server no issues if I am able to do so from my cli - I need some way to send the connecting request to the raw IP no port. It may be possible python-mysql can't do this
3306 is the default MySQL port and it seems that you are using MySQL, so that should work. https://cloud.google.com/sql/docs/mysql/connect-overview
You will have an easier time connecting with the Cloud SQL Python Connector a library built purely for connecting to Cloud SQL with Python.

Connecting Python with Google SQL

I need to connect the Python script with google sql.
I have created the database in google sql and now want to connect it with python script.
I am trying to use this so far:
conn = pymysql.connect(host='ip.ip.ipi.ip',user='user', passwd = "passwd", db = 'mysql',
charset = 'utf8')
cur = conn.cursor()
cur.execute("USE Example_Database")
but getting this error:
OperationalError: (2003, "Can't connect to MySQL server on '35.246.235.61' (timed out)")
Also tried to use this but not working:

It seems there is connectivity issue to Google SQL from where you run the code.
Where are you running your python code?
Can you check if it can connec to you Google SQL endpoint on port 3306 (or custom port you are using)?
telnet <Google_SQL_IP> 3306
Depending on where your python code is hosted you need to allow necessary access for your app server to cloud sql.
You can connect to a Cloud SQL instance using the following methods:
By using the proxy (Second Generation instances only)
By configuring access for one or more public IP addresses
By using the JDBC Socket Factory (for the Java programming language, Second Generation instances only)
By using the Cloud SQL Proxy library (for the Go programming language, Second Generation instances only)

PyMySQL using localhost vs socket incoherant behaviour

I am using PyMySQL to connect to a database running on localhost. I can access the database just fine using the username/password combiunation in both the command line and adminer so the database does not appear to be the probem here.
My code is as follow. However, when using the host="127.0.0.1" options, I get an OperationalError and an Errno 111. Using the same code, but connecting via the socket Mariadb runs on is fine.

PS: Note that this question has the same problem but the solution offered is the socket. That is no good enough: I want to know why I cannot use the hostname as the documentation suggests.
Errorcode 2003 (CR_CONN_HOST_ERROR) is returned by the client library, in case the client wasn't able to establish a tcp connection to the server.
First you should check, if you can connect via telnet or mysql command line client to your server.
If not, check the server configuration file:
does the server run on port 3306?
is IPv4 disabled?
is skip-networking enabled?
is bind-address activated (with another IP?

Cannot connect to GearHost database

I am trying to connect to my GearHost Database in python, I followed the instructions here on GearHost. My python code looks like:

I get the following error:
mysql.connector.errors.InterfaceError: 2003: Can't connect to MySQL server on 'den1.mssql6.gear.host:3306' (10061 No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it)
I have also tried to connect to GearHost through mysql workbench, as instructed in GearHost's instruction page, which also cannot connect to the database:

as #SMor pointed out, I had mistaken MSSQL for MySQL - I was able to successfully connect to my database using:

Python connect to MySQL database on web server

I wanted to know the process of connecting to a MySQL database that is hosted on a web server.
I have a basic free webserver for testing on 000webhost on which I created a MySQL database.
I have the credentials for the database which I will pretend are
host - mysql.webhost000.com
user - dummy_user
password - dummy_password
database - dummy_database
and I have a python script executing from my local computer with internet access
import MySQLdb
db = MySQLdb.connect(host="mysql.webhost000.com",
port=3306,
user="dummy_user",
passwd="dummy_password",
db="dummy_database")
I was hoping it would connect as long as I have the right credentials but when I execute the script it just hangs and once I quit it I see the error
Can't connect to MySQL server on 'mysql.webhost000.com' (4)
Am I missing some steps?
There are two possible problems and im not able to recreate the first one. One is the
host="mysql.webhost000.com"
is incorrect and throwing an error. The connection could be listed as another way. The other I noticed is this is usually how I set up my connection script.
