I'm running ubuntu 10.04 relatively fresh install on my laptop
manually installed django 1.2.1
when I try to run inside of a virtualenv
python manage.py **any command**
I get the error "bash: /home/alvin/workspace/storm-guard/virtual_damage_restoration/bin/python: cannot execute binary file
"
I have done the following so far:
removed and re-installed django
removed and re-installed project directory
removed first line from manage.py that defines the python shell to use
verified file has permission to execute
re-installed virtualenv
at this point I'm scratching my head
any advice is greatly apreciated
the virtualenv I was attempting to use was copied from another computer
for whatever reason when I created a new virtualenv and copied the bin directory over the existing everything started working

I have just started working on my new pc and just to get a feel for it I wanted first to start working on python files, so I started first by just wanting to run WSL on windows and it installed correctly but when I want to run any python using the run python file on the top right on VS code, this is what gets executed $ C:/Users/jaffe/AppData/Local/Microsoft/WindowsApps/python3.10.exe f:/Projects/hello.py
And this is the error: -bash: C:/Users/jaffe/AppData/Local/Microsoft/WindowsApps/python3.10.exe: No such file or directory
I have no idea what's causing it but when I run the file using 'Shift + Enter' which is: Python: Run Selection/Line in Python Terminal it seems to run the single line correctly but it gives me this error instead:
print("Hello, world")
-bash: syntax error near unexpected token `"Hello, world"'
but when I run it using python3 hello.py, it works perfectly fine?! I'm so lost as to why this is happening and how could I fix it.
Might be relevant: I'm using windows 10, installed python 3.10.2 from windows store, all of that is in VS code and the python code is one line: print("Hello, world") and I changed the permissions of Local/Microsoft/WindowsApps so it's now accessible by all users to view/read/edit/run, made sure that python3.10.exe exists(on the WindowsApps and it works perfectly) and reinstalled it many times, tired python3.9, and tried to install python from the website instead of the windows store and still the same, manually added python to PATH and tried .venv and didn't work. when I launch python3.10.exe outside vs code it seems to run perfectly, I have worked with python before and it used to work fine now I don't know what's wrong.
I have seen other questions of the same problem I'm having here but none of them solve the problem.

For wsl, the Windows filesystem is accessible, but it has a different path. It is mounted under the /mnt folder. So you would find your python .exe under /mnt/c/Users/jaffe/AppData/Local/Microsoft/WindowsApps/python3.10.exe. This said, the executable file is meant to work on Windows, and it doesn't really makes sense to use it on Linux when you could run python within your wsl distro.
python3 works perfectly fine
This is because most Linux distributions come with python3 pre-installed, so you can use it already. To see where it is located, you can run the command which python3, or python3 --version to check its version.
If you want to change version, you may consider download it from you package manager, apt.
I also suggest to install python3-pip if you don't have it already to get the pip package manager for python.
In my case when I ran into this.. I discovered pyenv. This allows you to download more than one version of python. You can then go into a specific directory, such as your python project and issue a python local 3.10.0 (for example). Here's a link on how to install it as well as poetry which is a virtual environment manager that is become very popular. You can also create an alias for python that works off of this. I add this command to my alias file and source it from my .bashrc. alias python='pyenv exec python3'
I have followed this tutorial on Youtube.
First, I think everything was fine etc. but when I want so run the Server with: python manage.py runserver it doesn't work. I got the following error:
bash: /Applications/MAMP/Library/bin/python: No such file or directory
The manage.py file is there and I have tried it several times. I don't know what the problem can be. I have reinstalled python, home-brew, pip and virtualenv
It sounds like you don't have Python installed, or it isn't present in your PATH variables.
In command line try the following
python --version
You should expect to see
python x.x.x
If it isn't included in your PATH variables, you will receive
'python' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
This can be fixed by going to the following
Right click This PC and select Advanced Properties
Click Environment Variables and select Path from the System variables
Click Edit and add Python. It should be at C:\PythonXX, though it would depend on your install directory

If Python is already installed, you aren't in the correct working directory. Could you please share your directory tree, including where manage.py is located.
I'm going through the Flask tutorial, and I encounter a problem where I can't use pip (and thus anything else really) a venv in Powershell. The same flask app runs correctly in an Ubuntu terminal with Python 3.6.6 in WSL.
The problem seems to depend on the directory, which makes me think it's somehow related to file path length; I enabled long file paths in the windows Group Editor but this hasn't fixed the problem. In the below steps my venv directory is c:\users\rwgpu\google-drive\code\flask-tutorial\winEnvflaskr\ and I experience the error, but everything works correctly in the directory C:\python\test\testVenv. (in each case I'm running the commands in the directory one up from the listed above, flask-tutorial and test respectively)
Minimal steps to reproduce are:
Completely fresh Python 3.7 installation.
Change directory to app folder.
py -m venv winEnvFlaskr
./winEnvFlaskr/Scripts/activate
pip list
The ultimate goal is to then
pip install FLask
and run the Flask tutorial app. Again, all steps work correctly in Bash on Ubuntu in WSL (running its own Python) and in a different windows directory with the same Python 3.7.
After pip list I get the error:
Fatal error in launcher: Unable to create process using '"c:\users\rwgpu\google-drive\code\flask-tutorial\winenvflaskr\scripts\python.exe" "C:\Users\rwgpu\Google-Drive\Code\flask-tutorial\winEnvFlaskr\Scripts\pip.exe" list'
and if I try
python -m pip list
I get nothing; the terminal hangs for a second and returns with no output. If I run
py -m pip install -U pip
in the bugged venv it will try to install and report success. It will do this again, and will never report "requirement already satisfied" which would be correct.
I had the same problem on Windows with running flask in command line from venv(for example, "(venv)...\flask run"). I resolved the problem with changing path in flask.exe code(open "your_venv\Scripts\flask.exe" with notepad or etc.): in my way I correct the 436-th line at the end; you need to put there "your_absolute_path_to_venv\Scripts\python.exe" instead of the path indicated there.

Well, I still don't know why this was happening -- it persisted through deleting and recreating the venv (obviously), but when I deleted the entire folder, that somehow cleared it up. I just copied the code into a new directory in the same parent and everything seems to be working ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
If anyone knows what would cause this in my case I still welcome input.
I'm new to django and currently going through the main tutorial. Even though it was working earlier, when I do python manage.py runserver OR python manage.py -h OR with any other command, the shell doesn't output anything. Wondering what I'm doing wrong.
The problem is that the first line in manage.py breaks the file on windows.
The first line should look like this:
#!/usr/bin/env python
Removing it will fix the issue.
First, check if python is fully installed by typing "python" in a shell.
Then you should try python manage.py runserver inside your django project. If you don't have any django project, try creating one by typing django-admin.py startproject mysite. If nothing is displayed in your shell, you must have installed Django the wrong way.

If you had your server running till one point and a certain action/change broke it, try going back to the previous state.
In my case there was an email trigger which would put the system in an invalid state if email doesn't go through. Doing git stash followed by selectively popping the stash and trying the runserver helps narrow down the problem to a particular file in your project.
Please try this.
Uninstall Python.
Go inside C drive and search Django. You will get many Django related files.
Delete every Django file. 😁 don't delete your Django files.
Install Python.
It's worked for me.
if you created a virtual environment then activate it. you can try this command(in virtual environment directory) if you're using windows os:
.\Scripts\activate
On Ubuntu works for my by running manage.py as script:
./manage.py runserver
Just stuck with the same problem. Found a solution that works, but tedious.
You need to know the location of the python.exe file in your computer. It is usually
C:/Users/USERNAME/AppData/Local/Programs/Python//python.exe
Modify as required and run the following in CMD,
C:/Users/USER1/AppData/Local/Programs/Python/Python38-32/python.exe
F:/mysite/manage.py runserver

if you are using Redis Server on Windows, check it out if Redis Server is running, I had same problem and realized my Redis Server was not running, I ran it and now my manage.py commands work fine.
The same happened with me also, but this issue is a minor one as it happens if you have multiple versions of Python on your system, you can select a specific Python version by running python3 or whichever version you want.
SO you should start from the beginning, uninstall Django first then,
create a virtual environment, decide upon a directory where you want to place it, and run the venv module as a script with the directory path:
for e.g:
python3 -m venv tutorial-env
//This will create the tutorial-env directory if it doesn’t exist, and also create directories inside it
Once you’ve created a virtual environment, you may activate it.
On Windows, run:
tutorial-env\Scripts\activate.bat
On Unix or MacOS, run:
source tutorial-env/bin/activate
Now,
In the command prompt, ensure your virtual environment is active, and execute the following command:
...> py -m pip install Django
NOTE:
If django-admin only displays the help text no matter what arguments it is given, there is probably a problem with the file association in Windows. Check if there is more than one environment variable set for running Python scripts in PATH. This usually occurs when there is more than one Python version installed.
Another solution, if you can, is to upgrade Django
pip install django --upgrade
Oftentimes one will get other unrelated issues to solve that are linked with the upgrade but once all is fixed the server should run just fine.
If you can't upgrade Django, this problem also happens when the code was built using Python 2.x and you're locally using Python 3.x.
The quicker fix in that case is to uninstall Python 3.x from your machine and make sure Python 2.x was added to the path. I've seen some developers setting up alias in PowerShell to have more than one version in the environment too.
I think the problem is in manage.py file (50%), check it with an another file that is correct.
I am a total newbie when it comes to django. However I have experience with python, I know how to install modules etc. I work on Win7 x64 with Python 2.7
Here is what I did:
Made sure Python environment variable is Set in %PATH%
installed django with pip install Django and checked afterwards if it installed (1.5.4)
added C:\Python27\Scripts to the environment variables (django-admin.py is there)
restarted cmd
enter django-admin.py help - no Error nothing, jumps to next line
enter django-admin.py startproject mysite - no Error, no Folder created, jumps to next line
enter django-admin.py gsfögjsdfüoisudhihdsf - no Error, nothing jumps to next line
did a pip uninstall Django and reinstalled it with pip install Django and tried started again at point 1
So now I have no idea what could be wrong. I even checked if the from django.core import management in the django-admin.py works - it does.
Any ideas?
