Suppose i have a main.py for a calculator application. I used different .py files for different function like(add.py for adding, mul.py for multiplication) and all these files are imported in main.py. When I click main.py it executes successfully and do all function like adding, mul, etc. What i want to do is to make a executable file for main.py so that i can run it in the computer that doesnot have a python installed or any of that module(add.py,..) exist in the hard drive. Is that possible??

As for OS independent, that's impossible, that's the whole point of an interpreter. The code is write once run anywhere, but once you compile it, you have to compile it for a specific platform
It is impossible to have an independent executable that runs on any OS, that's why Python is an interpreted language. What you can do is compile the Python scripts into an executable on each OS you want it to run on, using pyinstaller, so you are have a bunch of different independent programs for different OSs all built on the same Python script.
Pyinstaller has a advantage over py2exe because its easier to compile all the scripts into one file, instead of one directory.
Short of embedding code and a Python executable (like py2exe does), there's a couple of other possible options (although I've not tried any of them).
Write it with Cython and use a compiler to generate executables for all target platforms
Write it with Jython and generate .class files and run it on the JVM
Write it with IronPython and have it run on .NET/Mono
Like everyone else has mentioned before, it is not possible to create one executable for multiple OSes. If your question is how I understood it, trying to bundle several .py files that are used in a main .py file, then yes, that is achievable through py2exe. You'll need to create a setup.py file with the following:

PyInstaller might be something you are looking for, which can create .exe files from python scripts.
Here's the documentation. Be aware that the __import__() function with variable data isn't detected by PyInstaller, so you should just use import ..., and then PyInstaller will add the dependencies so that they are used in the .exe file.
As Wouter K mentioned, you should install Pyinstaller (pip install pyinstaller for pip) and then cd to the directory you want and type pyinstaller --onefile file.py on the terminal. If you cded in the directory your file is, you just type the name and the extension (.py) of your file. Else, you will have to specify the full path of the file. Also, you can't make an mac os executable from a non mac os pc. You will need to do what I mentioned above on a mac.
When making the executable you should declare the modules with it, you can then just copy the library files to the same location as the programme.
I use cx_freeze when making exe's and an example setup.py files looks like this:

$ python -m zipapp -p "interpreter" myapp
Where interpreter can be something like /usr/bin/env python (see Specifying the Interpreter).

Make a shortcut to the EXE file, move it at top and set the target and start-in paths as specified, to have relative paths going to dist\folder:
Target: %windir%\system32\cmd.exe /c start dist\web_wrapper\web_wrapper.exe
Start in: "%windir%\system32\cmd.exe /c start dist\web_wrapper\"
We can rename the shortcut to anything, so renaming to "GTFS-Manager".
Now when I double-click the shortcut, it's as if I python-ran the file! I found this approach better than the --onefile one as:
In onefile's case, there's a problem with a .dll missing for the Windows 7 OS which needs some prior installation, etc. Yawn. With the usual build with multiple files, no such issues.
All the files that my Python script uses (it's deploying a tornado web server and needs a whole freakin' website worth of files to be there!) don't need to be moved anywhere: I simply create the shortcut at top.
I can actually use this exact same folder on Ubuntu (run python3 myfile.py) and Windows (double-click the shortcut).
I don't need to bother with the overly complicated hacking of .spec file to include data files, etc.
Oh, remember to delete off the build folder after building. It will save on size.
Use Cython to convert to C, compile, and link with GCC.
Another could be, make the core functions in C (the ones you want to make hard to reverse), compile them and use Boost.Python to import the compiled code (plus you get a much faster code execution). Then use any tool mentioned to distribute.
I'm told that PyRun is also an option. It currently supports Linux, FreeBSD and Mac OS X.

Another could be, make the core functions in C (the ones you want to make hard to reverse), compile them and use Boost.Python to import the compiled code (plus you get a much faster code execution). Then use any tool mentioned to distribute.
I'm told that PyRun is also an option. It currently supports Linux, FreeBSD and Mac OS X.
I've been searching through SO for a while now trying to come up with an answer to this but due to my inexperience with programming I don't understand much of the documentation, nor am I confident enough to experiment too much.
Would anyone be able to describe in slightly simpler terms how I would use programs like Py2exe, PyInstaller, cx_freeze etc.? I just want a way for others (mainly friends) to be able to run my (simple, text only) program without having to download python themselves. If there is an easier way to do this I'd appreciate knowing that too.

There are two distinct ways of freezing python scripts to create executables:
Packing the interpreter and *.pyc files into one exe file-container. Such an approach is used by tools like PyInstaller, Py2exe, cx_freeze.
Creating native code from Python source, usually using a middle step of converting Python-source to C or C++ code. This is done by such tools as Shed-skin and Nuitka. The problem of this aproach is that such tools do not always support all the functionality of Python (e.g. they can have some typing limitations and so on)
The point where you have to start is reading the documentation. Such tools are not just push-and-run style tools, they usually have some configuration that must be implemented (that's the problem of possibly all build systems, and as the project grows, the configuration and number of hooks also grows).
You can start with Py2exe tutorial and 'hello-world' to get acquainted with that how compilation is done. As far as I know it's a simplest way to get your goal.
And the last thing, you can't create cross-platform native executables as their file formats are strongly operating system and hardware dependent.

Download this msvcp90.dll
Copy your FileCode.py AND msvcp90.dll to C:\Python27\
In C:\Python27\ create new text file, then enter this code inside it:
from distutils.core import setup
import py2exe
setup(console=['Avril.py'])
Replace Avril.py with YourFileName.py
Save the file as setup.txt
Open CMD and type this:
cd C:\Python27\
python setup.txt py2exe
Now go to C:\Python27\dist\ and there's your .exe program.

Python scripts can be made directly executable, like shell scripts, by putting the python environment path in the top of the script file.

The Python installer automatically associates .py files with python.exe so that a double-click on a Python file will run it as a script. The extension can also be .pyw, in that case, the console window that normally appears is suppressed.

Install pyinstaller, a program that converts .py to .exe for python 2.7 to where python is located:
cd C:\python27\scripts
pip install pyinstaller
then move whatever python file you want to compile to C:\python27\scripts, compile from there by using:
pyinstaller --onefile yourfile.py
the --onefile is optional but it packages the whole thing(in this example yourfile.py) into one .exe. Once everything is done there will be 2 new folders along with a .spec file. From C:\python27\scripts open the folder dist. Your .exe will be located there in one file which you can double tap to execute and distribute to anyone who doesn't have python. Hope it helps.
