Cannot launch Google App Engine on Windows 7 - python

Every time I try to run the GAE Launch, an error occurs and is save in GoogleAppEngineLauncher.exe.log.
I opened it, and found the following:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "GoogleAppEngineLauncher.py", line 42, in <module>
File "wx\_core.pyc", line 7913, in __init__
File "wx\_core.pyc", line 7487, in _BootstrapApp

File "launcher\preferences.pyc", line 62, in __init__
File "launcher\platform.pyc", line 435, in PythonCommand
IndexError: list index out of range
What's the problem here?
I am using Python 2.7.6 (64bit).
And the GAP SDK is Windows 1.8.8 - 2013-11-19

I uninstalled the 64 bit version Python and installed 32 bit, and then AppEngine works!

As per the link below, the problem is that you have to have a windows-based Python installation...use an installation that came from an MSI file.
A cygwinny or ortherwise non-windows installation (i.e. just unzipping a python.zip file) will NOT work with Google App Engine.
Gee, thanks Google for making such quality software.

I am just amazed at this, how could 2 minutes before everything was fine and now I am screwed by this error.
What should I do, I am totally bewildered. I have a deadline and suddenly this code stops, it worked fine, only change I did was to switch off my PC.
NS-3.6 is a very very old ns-3 release which you are trying to build with a new system (gcc compiler, python etc). I think the only solution to solve the problem is to update the simulator to a new release.
Try to rebuild it. First write: rm -rf build and build from scratch

App Engine Python won't start

I don't know what changed, but suddenly none of my Python App Engine projects will start on my PC. They start on my MacBook just fine, so there's something about the installation on my PC that's messed up. I've tried going back to 1.8.8, but that doesn't work. I've also tried using a fresh Python installation, but that didn't work. I've even tried using port 8080 (I usually use port 80, as I run the app launcher as admin).
This is what shows up in the error log when I click start on one of my projects:

Also, I'm using Windows 7 x64. My original installation of Python is from Enthought x64, but I did try using the basic x64 Python as well. As mentioned, I downgraded from 1.8.9 to 1.8.8, to no avail.
From a quick Google search, other users are suggesting it's a bug in pyvenv. Since not very many people are still using CherryPy, and it seems to only manifest itself in whatever CherryPy is doing there, that's probably it.
Bug the gist is that somewhere, only on Windows, you have a pydoc.py file which is being imported instead of the standard library's pydoc file.
So, find the offending pydoc.py file in your import path, and rename it. You can most likely find it by doing something like this:
import pydoc
print pydoc.__file__

My Firefox version: 26. I've installed Python 2.7. OS: Windows Vista, SDK: 1.14
The current 1.15 version of the Add-on SDK seems to be incomaptible with Python 2.7.6.
I got the same error and downgraded to Python 2.7.5 to solve this issue.
Here are some relevant bug reports:
Bug 950894 - [mozprocess] TypeError under windows evironment in cpython 2.7.6
Bug 958609 - Add-on SDK 1.15 incompatible with Python 2.7.6
Update: The bug has been fixed.
I suggest getting the latest version of the SDK (addon-sdk-1.15.zip) from the Mozilla Developer Hub :: Add-ons for Firefox web page. Also make sure to read an follow the instructions in the README file that comes with it (if you haven't already).
One pertinent thing it says is:
If you get an error when running cfx or have any other problems
getting started, see the "Troubleshooting" guide at:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/developers/docs/sdk/latest/dev-guide/tutorials/troubleshooting.html
try to install add-on sdk 1.15 with python 2.6.6 then do this steps
1- Download cp720
2- unzip the zip file.
3- Copy or Move the file cp720.py into your python encodings folder.
Example: C:\Python26\Lib\encodings\

Trouble running an application made with PyInstaller, importing GTK--searching nonexistent directories

I am trying to create an executable of my Python application that uses PyGTK to make a GUI. I have a well-established, automated build process using Pyinstaller that has worked for me for a previous application. Suffice it to say that it calls the usual Makespec.py and Build.py with 32-bit Python 2.7, with Pyinstaller configured for 32 bits. The resulting 32-bit application works fine on my machine and another machine running Windows 7 64-bit, but fails on 32-bit Windows XP with this error:
C:\OutNav_0_64\OutNav_0.64>outnav
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "<string>", line 23, in <module>
File "C:\Pyinstaller-1.5\iu.py", line 436, in importHook

File "C:\Users\462974\Documents\Local Sandbox\tools\utilities\Oni\build\pyi.win32\OutNav\outPYZ1.pyz/gtk", line 40, in

File "C:\Pyinstaller-1.5\iu.py", line 109, in getmod
ImportError: DLL load failed: The specified procedure could not be found.
The strange part is, there is no C:\Pyinstaller-1.5 directory on my machine or the one experiencing the error. I have no idea why it is attempting to run code from this nonexistent directory, or what the missing DLL is. Can anyone help me fold PyGTK into my application?
NOTE: The first line of the trace, line 23 in my program, is
import gtk
UPDATE: My manager successfully ran it on 64-bit Windows XP.
UPDATE 2: He was mistaken, it was 64-bit Windows 7. It has the same problem on his Windows XP installation.
Also, on the original machine it failed on, from the directory of the executable, I did this:
>>> import imp
>>> fp = open('gtk._gtk.pyd', 'rb')
>>> mod = imp.load_module('gtk._gtk', fp, 'gtk._gtk.pyd', ('.pyd', 'rb', 3))
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
ImportError: DLL load failed: A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed.
As far as I can tell, the .pyd file (which is in the format of a .DLL file) generated by pyinstaller on Windows 7 is incompatible with Windows XP. My solution was to simply recreate my build process on a Windows XP machine, which solved it to my satisfaction.

Mercurial CGI (hgweb.cgi) fails

I have Mercurial 1.8.1, Python 2.6.6 installed on Win 2k8 R2 running on a vm. I have tried installing from msi, source and using tortisehg. Command-line Hg works fine but I get the same error when running the hgweb.cgi:

The other answers I have found on SO and elsewhere pointed me to try installing from source, dropping the pure osutil into the install, or installing an older version. I have tried them all.
This is especially frustrating because I have other, similar non-vm machines running fine but have been unable to find the disconnect.
Ideas?
I had the same error using following system configuration
Python-2.6.6 installed as msi
mercurial-1.8.2-x86 installed as msi
IIS7
I solved this problem simply:
Python has been installed early
Uninstall Mercurial msi package
Download and install "Mercurial-1.8.2 (32-bit py2.6)" installer from mercurial website which is marked as "This is recommended for hgweb setups".
copyed content of C:\Python26\Lib\site-packages\mercurial\ to the directory used in IIS7 website setup.
Till now all is working. Hope this will help.
Whenever I have less than descriptive error messages that tell me something is going on at the system level but not what, I use Sysinternals' Procmon to tell me what's going with the registry and filesystem. It's verbose, and getting the filter to show just the process of interest takes some learning, but you can export the results to Excel and skim them for suspicious-looking results. Pay particular attention to failures, of course.
Give it a try and see what DLL is being searched for.
