i have a problem with running my python.exe file, because it says that there is no requests module, but when i run pip list it's installed. No idea why it happens (i am working on VM with windows if that changes something). Already tried uninstalling the package and reinstalling it with both pip and pip3, no changes. Thanks for help in advance!
You can use any of the methods listed below for Windows:-
Open CMD Prompt and use this:-
Path\easy_install.exe requests
and replace Path with your Python\Scripts* folder,.
It will be like this:-
C:\Python32\Scripts)
The second option is download a compressed library and put it in the Lib\site-packages folder of your python path after uncompressing it.
It will be like this:-
C:\Python27\Lib\site-packages)
After downloading just run python setup.py install from cmd.

If I type sudo python setup.py install (or sudo python setup.py configure) I get:

I also removed it and installed it again. Same results.
I am using Anaconda with a python3 environment. (I get the same errors in python 2, though.) So I can't use pip commands. I'm running a lubuntu machine, latest version.

The solution was to run the script in the folder where setup.py is located, in general :
Try with
sudo /[annaconda_python_path]/python setup.py install
Make sure the right environment is active in the terminal.

Based on what I've seen from other posts, the common reason for the problem is individuals download the requests module but have not installed it. I downloaded the tarball, unzipped it and installed the setup.py file via the computer command line. There is a requests-2.4.0-py2.7.egg folder in the Python27/Lib/site-packages folder.
For Windows, install pip. You'll probably need other packages later on, so it will pay off to have a proper package manager.

You might actually be missing certifi module.

From your error stack trace, it appears that you are using Windows platform and have the native windows Python installation. So I will stick to Windows instructions here. But since I have Cygwin based python installation, I will provide here cygwin-based steps to resolve your issue.
However, you can very easily use these steps on the Windows command prompt as well, by installing pip or easy_install, pre-built binary, or source code.
Windows-Cygwin-Pip way:
Add the directory that hosts python executable to your environment's PATH variable. Instructions here
Get pip to easily install new python packages. Best way is to download get-pip.py in cygwin’s home directory and run python get-pip.py in cygwin bash shell command prompt. Detailed and Alternative instructions here
Run pip install requests in the cygwin bash shell. It will install requests and certifi packages, which results in results, requests-2.4.0.dist-info, certifi, and certifi-14.05.14-py2.7.egg-info in the /lib/site-packages folder.
Run python and execute your original line of code import requests. It will run without errors.
Alternatives Ways to Installing a New Package:
There are several other alternatives of downloading this requests package, or for that matter any new python package. These include:
Getting easy_install in Cygwin and Running easy_install requests. Get easy_install in cygwin by installing setuptools package or by following instructions here.
Downloading a pre-built binary available here. And running it as executable. It will automatically install the module under the latest python installation available in windows registry.
Downloading source code for requests from Github into the home directory and Running python setup.py install

Install virtualenv
Install virtualenvwrapper
Always manage your environments with virtualenvwrapper
Always use pip to install dependencies inside your virtual environment
Use 'pip freeze --local' to see what's installed or to produce a requirements.txt file (pip freeze --local > requirements.txt )
If you have no idea what I'm talking about, you should spend some time reading up on these things, and you'll discover one of the many things that makes python so nice to work with (well, ok other programming languages have similar tools)
I am trying to install BeautifulSoup4 and having trouble with pip. I have installed pip but when I go to run pip install BeautifulSoup nothing happens. Just a new line comes up on CMD
e.g.
C:\Python27\Scripts>pip install BeautifulSoup
C:\Python27\Scripts>
Anyone have any ideas? This is Windows 7 btw. May well be something obvious I'm missing as I'm really new to Python.

Try these troubleshooting steps
1.Be sure you've followed all of these instructions carefully.
2.Check your path environmental variables to make sure you can run python from the command line.
3.Check your python DIRECTORY for the SCRIPTS folder. Look there to see if pip is there. I'm not 100 percent for sure but I think you must have pip here for it to be able to run from the command line.
By the way:
4.If you have python 3.4 or later, pip may already be installed.
if all else fails....
5.download this and run this in an admin cmd window:
python get-pip.py
6.try running the update commands if nothing else has worked.
pip install -U setuptools

pip install pywin32
and after that, you must run
python Scripts/pywin32_postinstall.py -install
I know I'm reviving an old thread, but I just had this problem and this was the only way to solve it.
I had an identical problem, which I solved by restarting my Python editor and shell. I had installed pywin32 but the new modules were not picked up until the restarts.
If you've already done that, do a search in your Python installation for win32api and you should find win32api.pyd under ${PYTHON_HOME}\Lib\site-packages\win32.
I didn't find the package of the most voted answer in my Python 3 dist.
I had the same problem and solved it installing the module pywin32:
In a normal python:
pip install pywin32
In anaconda:
conda install pywin32
My python installation (Intel® Distribution for Python) had some kind of dependency problem and was giving this error. After installing this module it stopped appearing.
I had both pywin32 and pipywin32 installed like suggested in previous answer, but I still did not have a folder ${PYTHON_HOME}\Lib\site-packages\win32.
This always lead to errors when trying import win32api.
The simple solution was to uninstall both packages and reinstall pywin32:
pip uninstall pipywin32
pip uninstall pywin32
pip install pywin32
Then restart Python (and Jupyter).
Now, the win32 folder is there and the import works fine. Problem solved.
After installing pywin32
Steps to correctly install your module (pywin32)
First search where is your python pip is present
1a. For Example in my case location of pip -
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Programs\Python\Python36-32\Scripts
Then open your command prompt and change directory to your pip folder location.
cd C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Programs\Python\Python36-32\Scripts
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Programs\Python\Python36-32\Scripts>pip install
pypiwin32
Restart your IDE
All done now you can use the module .
The following should work:
pip install pywin32
But it didn't for me. I fixed this by downloading and installing the exe from here:

This line:
import win32com
got me the error no module named win32api.
Using this command in elevated terminal:
pip install pywin32-ctypes and
pip install pywin32
and based on the error displayed, replacing:
import win32api → from win32ctypes.pywin32 import win32api
import pywintypes → from win32.lib import pywintypes
import _win32sysloader → from win32 import _win32sysloader
in your source file, or even the files of the packages that report the error (know what you are doing if you choose this approach) may solve this error. But better would be to just add the corresponding directories into the python path variable, for better integration with the python loading system, more info here: https://realpython.com/python-import/

That way, correct libraries load when standard imports are used. If there is a cache import somewhere in the library, it will work, and the imports inside the libraries work as well.
This works for me and my installation, so your environment may be set up differently and this guide may not be fully compatible, but it is a good step in solving the issue, maybe modification or extension of my steps above may lead to the solution in another distribution.

I've tried all of your answers and finally got a solution. my issue was that I installed from both pip and python interpreter on my Pycharm IDE. I just removed win32compact from my interpreter and it works.

In my case, the only thing that worked was to download the appropriate wheel from: https://pypi.org/project/pywin32/#files, and install with --force-reinstall.

I was able to run it on Spyder without error, but It wasn't working on cmd prompt
