Im trying to install mitmproxy on a Ubuntu 14.04 computer, but I'm getting error. I found on the web how I should install it by using this code:
sudo install pip mitmproxy
So I installed python, now when I run the command it works until I get this problem:
Command python.py egg_info failed with error code 1 in /tmp/pip_build_root/cryptography
I tried to update python but still the same
Exactly I installed python in this way:
sudo apt-get install python-pyasn1 python-flask python-urwid
What's wrong???
UPDATE
Here is the pip.log
You can also pip install from github:
In this order:
Install netlib: (sudo) pip install git+https://github.com/mitmproxy/netlib.git
Install mitmproxy: (sudo) pip install git+https://github.com/mitmproxy/mitmproxy.git
This will install all requisite libraries and provide you with the most up-to-date version of mitmproxy.
Judging by the log you got from pip the problem here is that the development libraries for libffi are not installed. You can rectify it with:
$ sudo apt-get install libffi-dev
and retry installing.
The clue in your error log is this line:
Package libffi was not found in the pkg-config search path.
If pkg-config is unable to find a library it means that the files needed to develop with this library are missing. On an Ubuntu or Debian system this usually means installing the package that has the name of the library plus -dev.
Running these 2 commands worked for me (Ubuntu 14.04)
sudo apt-get install python-pip python-dev libffi-dev libssl-dev
libxml2-dev libxslt1-dev libjpeg8-dev zlib1g-dev
sudo pip install mitmproxy
EDIT: You need to run this command before you will be able to use "mitmproxy -p port_number". since it gives error "Error: mitmproxy requires a UTF console environment."
export LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8
EDIT 2: After installation, you need to generate certificate first and have to transfer it into your device then setup manual proxy by entering your computer's IP address and port on which you will run mitmproxy server. Use below commands to generate certificate:
sudo apt-get install libnss3-tools
certutil -d sql:$HOME/.pki/nssdb -A -t C -n mitmproxy -i ~/.mitmproxy/mitmproxy-ca-cert.pem
$ pip uninstall mitmproxy netlib
$ sudo apt-get install -y build-essential libssl-dev libffi-dev python-dev python-pip libxml2-dev libxslt-dev git
$ sudo pip install git+https://github.com/mitmproxy/netlib.git#master
sudo pip install git+https://github.com/mitmproxy/mitmproxy.git#master
$ sudo python #
>>> from netlib import certffi
>>> exit()

Package python-pip is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
However the following packages replace it:
python3-pip
both my pip and pip3 are installed in python 3
pip -V
pip 20.1.1 from /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/pip (python 3.8)
pip3 -V
pip 20.1.1 from /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/pip (python 3.8)
Now i cant install pip
...it shows above error
If you have python(python2) installed you then you can use following command to install pip(for python2).
curl https://bootstrap.pypa.io/pip/2.7/get-pip.py -o get-pip.py
python get-pip.py
Now you can check for pip2
pip2 --version
I hope these will help you
Just for reference, this problem can occur if you are using Windows Ubuntu Shell and your firewall is blocking your Ubuntu sandbox's traffic. In that case installation resources can not be found and simple apt-update will not work.
In order to test if the firwall causes your problem, you can simply try to ping a website. Also if apt-update will fail with connection refused the firwall is likely your problem. Check this post on how to add your sandbox to the firewall whitelist (Endpoint Protection).
Use these commands first then try again and perform a reinstallation by sudo apt reinstall python3-pip
sudo add-apt-repository universe
sudo add-apt-repository multiverse
sudo apt-get update
I wanted to install eventlet on my system in order to have "Herd" for software deployment.. but the terminal is showing a gcc error:

Why can't Python.h be found?
Your install is failing because you don't have the python development headers installed. You can do this through apt on ubuntu/debian with:
sudo apt-get install python-dev
for python3 use:
sudo apt-get install python3-dev
For eventlet you might also need the libevent libraries installed so if you get an error talking about that you can install libevent with:
sudo apt-get install libevent-dev
For Fedora:
sudo yum install python-devel
sudo yum install libevent-devel
and finally:
sudo easy_install gevent
What worked for me on CentOS was:
sudo yum -y install gcc
sudo yum install python-devel
For Redhat Versions(Centos 7) Use the below command to install Python Development Package
Python 2.7
sudo yum install python-dev
Python 3.4
sudo yum install python34-devel
Python 3.6
sudo yum install python36-devel
If the issue is still not resolved then try installing the below packages -
sudo yum install python-devel
sudo yum install openssl-devel
sudo yum install libffi-devel
On MacOS I had trouble installing fbprophet which requires pystan which requires gcc to compile. I would consistently get the same error: command 'gcc' failed with exit status 1
I think I fixed the problem for myself thus:
I used brew install gcc to install the newest version, which ended up being gcc-8
Then I made sure that when gcc ran it would use gcc-8 instead.
It either worked because I added alias gcc='gcc-8 in my .zshrc (same as .bashrc but for zsh), or because I ran export PATH=/usr/local/bin:$PATH (see comment)
Also: all my attempts were inside a virtual environment and I only succeeded by installing fbprophet globally (with pip), but still no success inside a venv
This is an old post but I just run to the same problem on AWS EC2 installing regex. This working perfectly for me
sudo yum -y install gcc
and next
sudo yum -y install gcc-c++
If it is still not working, you can try this
sudo apt-get install build-essential
in my case, it solved the problem.
try this :
sudo apt-get install libblas-dev libatlas-base-dev
I had a similar issue on Ubuntu 14.04. For me the following Ubuntu packages
On MacOS I also had problems trying to install fbprophet which had gcc as one of its dependencies.
After trying several steps as recommended by #Boris the command below from the Facebook Prophet project page worked for me in the end.
conda install -c conda-forge fbprophet
It installed all the needed dependencies for fbprophet. Make sure you have anaconda installed.
This page is gonna save your life, for all further lib issues that are forthcoming,
For Alpine(>=3.6), use
apk --update --upgrade add gcc musl-dev jpeg-dev zlib-dev libffi-dev cairo-dev pango-dev gdk-pixbuf-dev

I am using MacOS catalina 10.15.4. None of the posted solutions worked for me. What worked for me is:
>> xcode-select --install
xcode-select: error: command line tools are already installed, use "Software Update" to install updates
>> env LDFLAGS="-I/usr/local/opt/openssl/include -L/usr/local/opt/openssl/lib" pip install psycopg2==2.8.4

use pip3 for python3
if you are on Mac as myself, try this in your terminal: xcode-select --install
Then accept the installation request, and it works afterwards as described in this issue
Build from source and install, this is fixed in the latest release (10.3+):
mkdir -p /tmp/install/netifaces/
cd /tmp/install/netifaces && wget -O "netifaces-0.10.4.tar.gz" "https://pypi.python.org/packages/source/n/netifaces/netifaces-0.10.4.tar.gz#md5=36da76e2cfadd24cc7510c2c0012eb1e"
tar xvzf netifaces-0.10.4.tar.gz
cd netifaces-0.10.4 && python setup.py install
Similarly I fixed it like this (notice python34):
sudo yum install python34-devel
sudo apt install gcc
It works for PyCharm on Ubuntu 20.10.
If you are migrating to a more modern version of python3 e.g. python3.5 to python3.8 You may want to check/upgrade the versions of the library that are failing if you have already installed the recommended libraries to handle gcc building python3-dev + other libraries as suggested.
It depends on the package. Some versions of the packages may not be supported on later versions of python3.
CentOS 7 already has Python2.7.5 stock installed. I am doing an online course that requires Python3.x installed. So these are the following steps i took to install Python3.7.3.rc1 :
$cd /usr/src
$sudo wget https://www.python.org/ftp/python/3.7.3/Python-3.7.3rc1.tgz
$sudo tar xzf Python-3.7.3rc1.tgz
$cd Python-3.7.3rc1
$sudo ./configure --enable-optimizations
$sudo make altinstall
$sudo rm /usr/src/Python-3.7.3rc1.tgz
$python3.7 --version
Python 3.7.3rc1
I followed these steps religiously from this link : https://tecadmin.net/install-python-3-7-on-centos/
During my course i was required to install pyperclip using pip.
So i did :
$python3.7 -m pip install pyperclip
/usr/local/bin/python3.7: No module named pip
Please suggest a method to install pip for Python3.7.3rc1.
You should have taken the default available python3, that is the python3.6 package in centos7
that would have been easier to setup rather than compile an unsupported version.
Suggest you install the supported python3 package in centos
Try doing yum install python36 from repository
sudo yum install -y https://repo.ius.io/ius-release-el7.rpm
Update yum package
sudo yum update
Install python36 along with pip
sudo yum install -y python36u python36u-libs python36u-devel python36u-pip
Below steps are for python3.7,
suggest avoiding unsupported packages.
Alternate Steps for pip setup for Centos
You need to install pip for python3.7 series
Step 1: First install the EPEL Repository
sudo yum install epel-release
Step 2: Installing pip
python37 -m pip
Step 3: Verify if pip was installed properly
pip --version
If the command not found error shows up, try
python37 -m ensurepip
I also as you said "followed these steps religiously from this link: https://tecadmin.net/install-python-3-7-on-centos/."
It was not an option for me to install python3.6, as I explicitly needed 3.7.
I was able to install using the following procedure:
# AFAIK, libffi-devel solved the "ModuleNotFoundError: No module named '_ctypes'" I had when I tried installing without it.
yum install libffi-devel
cd /usr/src
wget https://www.python.org/ftp/python/3.7.5/Python-3.7.5.tgz
tar xzf Python-3.7.5.tgz
cd Python-3.7.5
./configure --enable-optimizations
make install # Or: make altinstall
python3 -V
pip3 --version
rm -f /usr/src/Python-3.7.5.tgz
What I changed from the referenced article is the version (3.7.5 instead of 3.7.4) and in addition installed "libffi-devel". It could be that this one would have solved on 3.7.4 as well.
For CentOS 6 and 7 you can run this:
sudo yum install python37-setuptools
sudo easy_install-3.7 pip
Edit: You should then be able to install using pip3 install <package>
Need to install python packages like pip, numpy, cv2 on an Amazon EC2 instance of Ubuntu. I tried using sudo apt-get install python-pip but got below given error:
ubuntu#ip-172-31-35-131:~$ sudo apt-get install python-pip
Reading package lists... Done

Try first sudo apt-get update then

Have you tried the instructions here?
You can install pip from PyPa directly:
curl -O https://bootstrap.pypa.io/get-pip.py
python get-pip.py --user
Your system may have a concurrent python3.x under the name python3, then you can install pip for it with python3 get-pip.py --user as well. (Or contrarily, python2.x under the name python2.)
I am very new to Ubuntu OS and Python as well. I want to install Django. But i dont have easy_install and I tried below command to install pip
sudo apt-get install python-pip
I got an error as below
Unable to locate package python-pip
I tried below command as well
sudo apt-get install python-pip
and i got error as below
E: Package 'python-setuptools' has no installation candidate
I am very confused in installing django, How to successfully install django
First update repositories
sudo apt-get update
then try
sudo apt-get install python-pip python-dev build-essential python-setuptools
if nothing, you can install pip and setuptools packages manually. Download them from PyPI.
Install pip
To install or upgrade pip, securely download get-pip.py.
Then run the following (which may require administrator access):
sudo python get-pip.py
If setuptools (or distribute) is not already installed, get-pip.py will install setuptools for you.
To upgrade an existing setuptools (or distribute), run pip install -U setuptools
Upgrade pip
On Linux or OS X:
sudo pip install -U pip
Then you can download django using pip,
sudo pip install django
Install
First you need make sure you have Python install, here I take 2.7.6 as example. For how to install Python, you can go check this link:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/443048/python-2-7-6-on-ubuntu-12-04-how-to
Then you can start install Django and setup database as follow:
sudo apt-get install python-django
sudo apt-get install mysql-server
sudo apt-get install python-mysqldb
You can find more configuration detail in this link
http://yuwenqing.org/?p=108
Also, for less pain in future develop, you should deploy your Django application in python virtualEnv, here are some detail of why you need virtualEnv.
