Resizing Image and fit it to the Canvas size - python

Can anyone help me to resize the image using ImageTk?
I have a canvas and I will put pictures there.
I have different kinds of pictures = different sizes for all pictures
And when I attach the picture (just one) in the canvas, I want the picture's size to resize so that it will fit in the canvas and it will still maintain its proportion.
Please help me! I am new in PIL, Tkinter,and Python.
Update:
I tried using thumbnail under Image but in resizing:
self.image.thumbnail(self.picsize,Image.ANTIALIAS)
the image is not fitting the canvas size and if the image is longer/wider than the canvas, it is just cut. (Not resizing to fit into the canvas)

Try saving the thumbnail as a separate variable:

I suspect it may be taking the original self.image = Image.open(attachphoto)
I would suggest watching what sizing is going on with:

How can I get elements in Tkinter windows to fill the frame?

I am new to Python GUI development with Tkinter.
I am trying to make the app window a certain size and I want the webcam view in the window to fill the size of the main window.
When I set the window size, the webcam does not fill the entire window.
How can I make the elements fill the entire window when I customize the size of the window?

All you have to do is resize the image to fit the canvas size. You can either use cv2.resize() or Image.resize() to resize the image.
To get the current canvas size use canvas.winfo_height() and canvas.wifo_width(). Besides that, you should also consider updating the existing image using canvas.itemconfig(tag_id), instead of creating a new one each time.

How can I increase Tkinter Maximum Canvas size for extremely large images?

I can't display images longer (height) than about 30612 pixels high. I've read that there is a maximum height to canvas. I'd like to get the source file and extend that to 90 or 100k pixels in height. Conversely, I've seen suggested that a canvas may be buffered, if this is true, I have no clue how to implement it.. Any help is appreciated!
I am using code I found off Stack that is supposed to deal with large images, it does alright, but ultimately hit's the cavas height limit.

I tried to put together a bigger image from displays of a grid of canvases. This looks like it might work, at least if you just want to display a big image. I have just tested with a small image and not paid any attention to memory or speed or anything...

Now, scrolling a frame seems to raise some problems, but there also seems to be solutions. I tried to use VerticalScrolledFrame as described in Python Tkinter scrollbar for frame and it works fine. As it only provides for a vertical scrollbar you'd have to implement horizontal scrollbar yourself. Maybe a few additional functions as scrolling with the mouse wheel, keyboard shortcuts or other would be useful.
I got the VerticalScrolledFrame from TKinter scrollable frame and modified it for Python 3.
This is the code I've come up with from several sources - Thanks to figbeam for all the help. Also, this is not pretty!!!! The button shows up in the center of the Tkinter window. If you'd like to modify this, please do.

TKinter fails to display large PNG image if it's not RGB

I have some Tkinter code that displays an image in the middle of a canvas:

This displays my image in the middle of a blue 1280x720 canvas. If I change the resize to:

I get an empty blue 1280x720 canvas. I was working towards getting the image to scale to fill the canvas, but it's disappearing if my image is any size over 400x400 seems like. My base image file is a 3000x2000 or so PNG.
Question: You use the Canvas widht/height for create_image(..., try the following:

Think about to down sample your Image to 1280x720 Outside of your Script, instead of down sizeing Inside the Script.
According to the Pillow Documentation, Filter PIL.Image.ANTIALIAS is not supported.
Image.resize(size, resample=0)
Returns a resized copy of this image.
Parameters:
size – The requested size in pixels, as a 2-tuple: (width, height).
resample – An optional resampling filter.
This can be one of PIL.Image.NEAREST, PIL.Image.BOX, PIL.Image.BILINEAR, PIL.Image.HAMMING, PIL.Image.BICUBIC or PIL.Image.LANCZOS.
If omitted, or if the image has mode “1” or “P”, it is set PIL.Image.NEAREST.

I managed to solve this using the solution found here.
Simply changing:

Allows this to run as expected.

Quality loss while using PIL.convert("RGBA")

My Problem:
As soon as I convert the input GIF Image into a RGBA to process it, I'm enjoying quality loss on the image. (You can see the both pictures below the code)
The code shown below "works" just I don't got a clue, why i loose quality.
Any suggestions??

It doesn't seem like you actually do anything with the image so why don't you use the base64 encoded image and read it directly like below:

The question is old so it's unlikely that you are still working on this but I hope it will help someone else.
The issue seems to be only with RGBA, RGB works just fine but it obviously doesn't have Alpha channel. The code above will render image in its original form.
My problem is slightly different but relates to this issue. I'm trying to manipulate pixels so I have to load it as RGBA, process it and save again.

After filling the issue report on github I got reply from the author.

The relevant part is :
It's quantization issue.
This gives the same result:

Image resize under PhotoImage

I need to resize an image, but I want to avoid PIL, since I cannot make it work under OS X - don't ask me why...
Anyway since I am satisfied with gif/pgm/ppm, the PhotoImage class is ok for me:

Because both zoom() and subsample() want integer as parameters, I used both.
I had to resize 320x320 image to 250x250, I ended up with
imgpath = '/path/to/img.png'
img = PhotoImage(file=imgpath)
img = img.zoom(25) #with 250, I ended up running out of memory
img = img.subsample(32) #mechanically, here it is adjusted to 32 instead of 320
panel = Label(root, image = img)
You have to either use the subsample() or the zoom() methods of the PhotoImage class. For the first option you first have to calculate the scale factors, simply explained in the following lines:
scale_w = new_width/old_width
scale_h = new_height/old_height
photoImg.zoom(scale_w, scale_h)

I just had the same problem, and I found that #Memes' answer works rather well. Just make sure to reduce your ratio as much as possible, as subsample() takes a rather long time to run for some reason.
Basically, the image is zoomed out to the least common factor of the two sizes, and then being subsidized by the origonal size. This leaves you with the image of the desired size.
I had a requirement where I wanted to open an image, resize it, keeping the aspect ratio, save it under a new name, & display it in a tkinter window (using Linux Mint). After looking through dozens of forum questions, and dealing with some weird errors (semmingly involving the PIL to Pillow fork in Python 3.x), I was able to develop some code that works, using a predefined new maximum width or new maximum height (scaling up or down as necessary), and a Canvas object, where the image is displayed centered in the frame. Note that I did not include the file dialogs, just a hardcoded Image open & save for one file:
