I upgraded to the new version of Pycharm. In the terminal, it says bash-3.2$ instead of my username. When I tried to install a library, it said that pip command is not found:
bash: pip: command not found
So I installed pip:
bash-3.2$ sudo easy_install pip

Okay, now all I have to do is use pip to install a library, right?
But then, this happens:
bash-3.2$ pip install pandas
bash: pip: command not found
I don't understand what I have to do to actually install pip. Or should I use sudo easy_install [library]?
I know that this is not precisely what you're asking, but PyCharm has its own built-in package manager. You should not have to use pip manually.
File->Settings->Project Interpreter
https://www.jetbrains.com/help/pycharm/2016.3/installing-uninstalling-and-upgrading-packages.html
there you can manage the installed packages for the selected Python interpreter or virtualenv.
Run this command on your terminal. pip will be installed without any issue.
sudo [your package manager] install python-pip python-dev build-essential
If it is not solved. The problem might be PATH problem.
Type echo $PATH on terminal. There should be /usr/local/bin in the output. If it is not type PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/bin to add /usr/local/bin to PATH

I have my deployment system running CentOS 6.
It has by default python 2.6.6 installed. So, "which python" gives me /usr/bin/python (which is 2.6.6)
I later installed python3.5, which is invoked as python3 ("which python3" gives me /usr/local/bin/python3)
Using pip, I need to install a few packages that are specific to python3. So I did pip install using:-
"sudo yum install python-pip"
So "which pip" is /usr/bin/pip.
Now whenever I do any "pip install", it just installs it for 2.6.6. :-(
It is clear that pip installation got tied to python 2.6.6 and invoking pip later, only installs packages for 2.6.6.
How can I get around this issue?
If pip isn’t already installed, then first try to bootstrap it from the standard library:
$ python3.5 -m ensurepip --default-pip
If that still doesn’t allow you to run pip:
Securely Download get-pip.py.
Run sudo python3.5 get-pip.py.
Now you can use pip3 to install packages for python3.5. For example, try:
$ sudo pip3 install ipython # isntall IPython for python3.5
Alternatively, as long as the corresponding pip has been installed, you can use pip for a specific Python version like this:
$ python3.5 -m pip install SomePackage # specifically Python 3.5

Ensure you can run pip from the command line

I have python 3.6 and 3.8 on my Ubuntu 18.04 WSL machine. Running
sudo apt-get install python3-pip
pip3 install my_package_name
kept installing packages into Python 3.6 dist directories. The only way that I could install packages for Python 3.8 was:
python3.8 -m pip install my_package_name
That installed appropriate package into the Python 3.8 dist package directory so that when I ran my code with python3.8, the required package was available.
Example of how to install pip for a specific python version
curl https://bootstrap.pypa.io/get-pip.py -o get-pip.py
/opt/local/bin/python2.7 get-pip.py
Script is from official doc: https://pip.pypa.io/en/stable/installing/
On Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS I wanted to install pip for my second python version (python3) and the following command did the trick for me:
$ sudo apt install python3-pip
I just cleaned up my mac after a mavericks install (yeah, i'm late to the party).
I'm using homebrew Python but I've confirmed this error with the stock apple python as well. I've got pip 1.5.6 installed system-wide and also in my virtualenv.
I can pip-sys install for system-wide pip installs no problem. When In a virtualenv though, I get the following error, even with which pip.
pip install -U -r requirements/dev.pip
Usage:
pip <command> [options]
no such option: -E
Seems there is something wrong with the pip install within the virtualenv. Pip is not working but pip2 install works fine. So maybe there's a version conflict where pip installs thinking it's a different python version from what was installed.
To recap
pip install south
fails with above error
pip2 install south
works fine.
I've got a brand new kubuntu 14.04.01 LTS. It has only python 2.7 supported. I need 2.6 for my work. I've found the deadsnakes repositories and I've been able to install python2.6. But now I can't find a way to install pip for python 2.6 - how can I do that?
Following #AvishBabu's answer, I downloaded the easy setuptools 2.6 egg, so I have easy_install-2.6, but it's installed inside my /usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages... When I try to install pip for 2.6, I get:
$ sudo easy_install-2.6 pip
Searching for pip

which means, that only pip2.7 is taken into account.
You have to install setuptools for Python 2.6 (example :
setuptools-0.6c11-py2.6.egg). Then, you have easy_install-2.6.
You can do:
Use the command
easy_install-2.6 pip
For installing the mysql-python, use like pip-2.6 install mysql-python.
See reference.
I have been following the instructions on http://docs.python-guide.org/en/latest/starting/install/osx/ but for some reason this is not going as I believe it would be expected.
I have python 2.7 running by default but had to get easy_install up-to-date by following the instructions on: https://superuser.com/questions/256717/easy-install-the-wrong-version-of-python-modules-mac-os and link it from /usr/local/bin/share to /usr/local/bin. It seems to be working fine.
The problem is that now when I install pip it seems to install to 2.6 and not 2.7.
