I have a csv file that I am trying to split based on the number of columns. The original file has about 24000 columns and I want to split this into files with each files having a fixed number of columns (say 1000). I want to run to do feature selection on weka on the individual files. I have the following code in python.

It is generating the individual files as expected but after splitting I am not able to load the individual files in weka. I am getting the following error
I am new to this and have no idea why this occurs. I cannot find answers online. It would be really helpful if someone could explain why this is happening and how to correct this
First of all add index=False to the to_csv call:
df_temp.to_csv(name+str(i)+ext, index=False)
Also please upload a screenshot of the csv file when you open it in some csv viewer application (e.g. Excel).

I tried running this script but im getting a couple of errors. First off, i know my indentation is off(newbie over here), and im getting a big error under my for loop saying that "csv_files" is not defined. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
There are two issues here:
The first one is kind of easy - The variable in the for loop should be csvfiles, not csv_files.
The second one (Which will show up when you fix the one above) is that you are treating a list of dataframes as a dataframe.
The object "dataframes" in your script is a list to which you are appending the dataframes created from the CSV files. As such, you cannot index them by the column name as you are trying to do.
If your dataframes have the same layout I'd recommend using df.concat to join all dataframes into a single one, and then filtering the rows as you did here.
full_dataframe = pd.concat(dataframes, axis=0)
full_dataframe = full_dataframe[full_dataframe['result'].str.contains('fail')]
As a tip for further posts I'd recommend you also post the full traceback from your program. It helps us understand exactly what error you had when executing your code.
how to there is around 10k .csv files named as data0,data1 like that in sequence, want to combine them and want to have a master sheet in one file or at least couple of sheets using python because i think there is limitation of around 1070000 rows in one excel file i think?

A few things to note:
Please check your csv file content first. It would easily mismatch columns when reading csv with text(maybe ; in the content). Or you can try changing the csv engine
df= pd.read_csv(csvfilename,sep=';', encoding='utf-8',engine='python')
If you want to combing into one sheet, your can concat into one dataframe first, then to_excel
df = pd.concat([df,sh_tmp],axis=0,sort=False)
note: concat or append would be a straightforward way to combine data. However, 10k would lead to a perfomance topic. Try list instead of pd.concat if you facing perfomance issue.
Excel has maximum row limitation. 10k files would easily exceed the limit (1048576). You might change the output to csv file or split into multiple .xlsx

You can try grouping the data first (1000k each), then write to sheet one by one.

I'm working with lastest version of Spark(2.1.1). I read multiple csv files to dataframe by spark.read.csv.
After processing with this dataframe, How can I save it to output csv file with specific name.
For example, there are 100 input files (in1.csv,in2.csv,in3.csv,...in100.csv).
The rows that belong to in1.csv should be saved as in1-result.csv. The rows that belong to in2.csv should be saved as in2-result.csv and so on. (The default file name will be like part-xxxx-xxxxx which is not readable)
I have seen partitionBy(col) but look like it can just partition by column.
Another question is I want to plot my dataframe. Spark has no built-in plot library. Many people use df.toPandas() to convert to pandas and plot it. Is there any better solution? Since my data is very big and toPandas() will cause memory error. I'm working on the server and want to save the plot as image instead of showing.
I suggest below solution for writing DataFrame in specific directories related to input file:
in loop for each file:
read csv file
add new column with information about input file using withColumn tranformation
union all DataFrames using union transformation
do required preprocessing
save result using partitionBy by providing column with input file information, so that rows related to the same input file will be saved in the same output directory
Code could look like:

for file in files: # where files is list of input CSV files that you want to read
df = spark.read.csv(file)
df.withColumn("input_file", file)
if all_df is None:
all_df = df

all_df = all_df.union(df)

I have a large number of files that i want to import. I do this one by one with pandas. But some of them only have header text, and the actual contents is empty. This is on purpose, but I don't know which files are empty. Also, each file has a different number of columns, and the number of columns in each file is unknown. I use the following code:
lines = pandas.read_csv(fname, comment='#', delimiter=',', header=None)
Is there a way for pandas to return an empty data rame if it doesn't find any non-comment lines in a file? Or some other work around?

I am a beginner at Python and I'm looking to take 3 specific columns starting at a certain row from a .csv spreadsheet and then import each into python.
For example
I would need to take 1000 rows worth of data from column F starting at
row 12.
I've looked at options using cvs and pandas but I can't figure out how
to have them start importing at a certain row/column.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If the spreadsheet is not huge, the easiest approach is to load the entire CSV file into Python using the csv module and then extract the required rows and columns. For example:
import csv
rows = list(csv.reader(file('Book1.csv', 'rb')))
data = [column[5] for column in rows[11:11+1000]]
will do the trick. Remember that Python starts numbering from 0, so column[5] is column F from your spreadsheet and rows[11] is row 12.
CSV files being text files, there is no way to read a certain line. You will have to read line per line, and count... Have a look at the csv module in Python, which will explain how to (easily) read lines. Particularly this section.
