I've been trying to install the gym library via pip install gym
I get the following error

ERROR: Could not find a version that satisfies the requirement gym==0.23.1
ERROR: No matching distribution found for gym==0.23.1
pip then defaults to trying to install previous versions 0.23.0, 0.22.0 and so on.
I get the following warning for all versions and none installs.
request gym from <link> has inconsistent version: filename has '0.9.0', but metadata has '0.9.0'
After some Googling for similar errors, I tried updating pip python3 -m pip install --upgrade pip setuptools wheel
but I get the same problem with version mismatch, and it tries to install old versions of pip and fails.
I'm on Python 3.10.4 and pip 21.0 under Arch Linux.
edit: The same problem happens to any package I try to install with pip.

The problem seems to be caused by the python-pip package under Arch Linux.
One possible way to fix it:
sudo pacman -Rncs python-pip
python -m ensurepip
If you cannot figure out pip use git
git clone https://github.com/openai/gym
cd gym
pip install -e .
Try to install with an upgrade option to install the latest without cache since looks that the latest version is stable:
pip install gym -U --no-cache-dir
-U, --upgrade Upgrade all packages to the newest available version
--no-cache-dir Disable the cache
If this won't help you can try to install using legacy version resolver (as per https://github.com/pypa/pip/issues/9203):
pip install gym -U --no-cache-dir --use-deprecated=legacy-resolver
When I try to install anything with (for example) python3 -m pip install numpy , I get
Could not find a version that satisfies the requirement numpy (from versions: )
No matching distribution found for numpy
I've tried upgrading pip3 with python3 -m pip install --upgrade pip but have only gotten
Requirement already up-to-date: pip in
/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.5/lib/python3.5/site-
packages
and when I do python3 -m pip --version I get
pip 7.1.2 from /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.5/lib/python3.5/site-packages (python 3.5)
I'm unable to install any modules at all. Any advice? I am on MacOS.
To solve your problem, I suggest you use brew as the package manager and install python, not as binary from the python.org but binary using brew (https://brew.sh), I hope it'll fix your troubles, during the installation process.
Install brew package manager:
$ /usr/bin/ruby -e "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/master/install)"
Install "python3" on your machine (python2 can be installed in the same way):
$ brew install python3
Check what version of python you are using:
$ which python3
Output(should look like): /usr/local/bin/python3
Check what pip you are using:
$ which pip3
Output(should look like): /usr/local/bin/pip3
Then you can install any package using "pip":
$ pip3 install virtualenv
Verify that package was installed:
$ pip3 freeze | grep virtualenv
Update pip manually, first download pip:
curl https://bootstrap.pypa.io/get-pip.py -o get-pip.py
and then run the command
python3 get-pip.py

I am trying to uninstall 'pyreadline' python package from my windows system using

but it gives an error:

I am using ubundu and have python 2X and 3X installed, default version is python 2X. I want to install a package for python3X. When i tried doing it with pip the module got installed to python 2X

All is not lost, however; pip can install from Subversion (SVN), Git, Mercurial, and Bazaar repositories. SciPy uses SVN:

In Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid), I could successfully pip install scipy (within a virtualenv) after installing some of its dependencies, in particular:

To install scipy on windows follow these instructions:-
Step-1 : Press this link http://www.lfd.uci.edu/~gohlke/pythonlibs/#scipy to download a scipy .whl file (e.g. scipy-0.17.0-cp34-none-win_amd64.whl).
Step-2: Go to the directory where that download file is there from the command prompt (cd folder-name ).
Step-3: Run this command:
pip install scipy-0.17.0-cp27-none-win_amd64.whl
I tried all the above and nothing worked for me. This solved all my problems:
pip install -U numpy
pip install -U scipy
Note that the -U option to pip install requests that the package be upgraded. Without it, if the package is already installed pip will inform you of this and exit without doing anything.
If I first install BLAS, LAPACK and GCC Fortran as system packages (I'm using Arch Linux), I can get SciPy installed with:

The repository moved, but a
pip install -e git+http://github.com/scipy/scipy/#egg=scipy
failed for me... With the following steps, it finally worked out (as root in a virtual environment, where python3 is a link to Python 3.2.2):
install the Ubuntu dependencies (see elaichi), clone NumPy and SciPy:
git clone git://github.com/scipy/scipy.git scipy
git clone git://github.com/numpy/numpy.git numpy
Build NumPy (within the numpy folder):
python3 setup.py build --fcompiler=gnu95
Install SciPy (within the scipy folder):
python3 setup.py install
In my case, it wasn't working until I also installed the following package : libatlas-base-dev, gfortran

Note:You should download the file_name.whl according to you python version, if you python version is 32bit python3.5 you should download this one, and the "win32" is about your python version, not your operating system version.
Then install file_name.whl like this:
C:\Users\****\Desktop\a>pip install scipy-0.18.1-cp35-cp35m-win32.whl
Processing c:\users\****\desktop\a\scipy-0.18.1-cp35-cp35m-win32.whl
Installing collected packages: scipy
Successfully installed scipy-0.18.1
Then there is only one more thing to do: comment out a specfic line or there will be error messages when you imput command "import scipy".
So comment out this line
from numpy._distributor_init import NUMPY_MKL # requires numpy+mkl
in this file: your_own_path\lib\site-packages\scipy__init__.py
Then you can use SciPy :)
