i made a simple macro using pydirectinput (pyautogui failed me so I had to go with pydirectinput ) but I can't use my computer while the script is running can I like tell python to use this macro script on a specific window/program so I can freely use the computer and the macro will do its stuff in the background?
If you want the script to run in the background with no window just rename the file extension to ".pyw"
To stop a script that has no window, go into task manager -> details -> locate pythonw.exe -> End Task
Yes you can and it's very easy todo!
Just Rename your script's file extension to .pyw
.pyw files are used in Windows to indicate a script needs to be run using PYTHONW.EXE instead of PYTHON.EXE in order to prevent a DOS console from popping up to display the output. This patch makes it possible to import such scripts, in case they're also usable as modules.
In Order to close that run file you can just open your "Windows Task Manager" using the shortcut ctrl + shift + Esc and then find pythonw.exe and click on DELETE button or End Task Button in Bottom

So I am creating an installer with i-express 2.0 on Windows and I have the files and everything, but I do not see the "create shortcut automatically upon installing in the desktop / start menu" button or anything like that button. I have a giant file and there is one .exe file, I want that to be made a shortcut automatically.
(Or you can suggest another program that can).
I am running on Windows 10
My .EXE runs on python / Is coded with python
I made a Python GUI using Tkinter, but when I run it directly (double click the file) it opens the black python window but automatically closes by itself in less than half a second. I found a way to make it open the IDLE editor but it just opens the editor and doesn't run it.
I want it to run the way it runs when you open the IDLE editor and press Run Module. This runs it using Python Shell.
Is there a way I can make it automatically run using Python Shell?
Based on Mark Tolonen's comment you should do two things
rename your file to a .pyw from .py to prefer console-less runs
set your system to open .pyw files with pythonw if that's not configured already
Linux: configure xdg-open
Windows: right click and choose an application from the context menu (you may need to find where Python is installed to select the pythonw.exe executable)
Okay, one of the comments on the original question is correct.
As Terry Jan Reedy (user:722804) said,
It is possible that your mygui.py file is missing 'root.mainloop()' or the equivalent to start the GUI. IDLE lets you omit that during development so that one can interact with tkinter to retrieve values and make changes to widgets.
Adding gui.mainloop() to the end of my program worked.
In PyCharm 2018.2.5 (Community Edition), I have bound a keyboard shortcut to "Run File in Console". This launches opens the console and runs the file, but does not focus the console for input and anything I type goes into my code. (Sometimes when I use the switcher to focus the Python console it will try to search console variables when I type.)
Is there a way to automatically focus the Python console for input when it is launched?
No for PyCharm there is no way to automatically focus the Python console for input when it is launched.
In Notepad ++ i can do the following.
Enter my code
press shift+a to execute a macro which saves the file and execute it with Python 2.7 (or 3). I also made this macro a menu item.
When the console runs and the script asks for input you are already in focus and can directly put in our entry without having to click and highlight the window or so as it is necessary in PyCharm.
So the step between writing the code and executing it to see what it does exactly one hotkey. Its not one hotkey and a mouse click or what ever no.... its exactly one press of a button. This makes learning very effective because there are no detours.
I looked long in PyCHarm but i could not find this functionality or a workaround. So the answer to your question is "With PyCharm this is not possible."
Here is how to do it in Notepad ++.
Download Notepad ++
In N++ install the NppExec Plugin.
Create the "save and run in python" macro: In NppExec create a script as shown here:
NPP_CONSOLE 0
npp_save
npp_run cmd /K C:\Python27\python.exe "$(FULL_CURRENT_PATH)"
Save your macro script as say "Save and run in Python Selfmade"
In the hotykeys menu assign your macro to a new hotkey.
In the Npp_Exec menu click on Advanced Options and create a menu entry for your macro. To do this select the script you created under "Associated Script" and then click on "Add/Modify"
Another editor that offers you this quick and direct run functionality is "Atom" with its many plugins.
The shortcut to switch between the code and console is Alt+4; by clicking on the console or using this shortcut, future consoles you open will be selected by the input.
Yes it IS possible
in the run console change the view mode to Window (click the cog)
add the following lines to the benning of your source code
import pygetwindow as gw
win = gw.getWindowsWithTitle('Run')[0]
win.activate()
now it will automatically give focus to the run window... see my youtube demo.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MhmltlUjU3k
i have just posted something related to this. It is needed to distinguish between "Python console" and "python or debug console" within the keymap options. The first one focus at the console but without automatically move caret to it, the later does it.
See more detailes in this answer.
It's very easy! Just make macros with two actions:
1 - Run command,
2 - Activate run tool window. And with keymap in settings create a shortcut. For example, I do this with shift + f10 .
I'm trying to run a program without cmd window pop-up when I double click it or when I make it exe. So I wanted to save it as .pyw extension but when I double click to script, shell can't run it. It says I need to select the program to run it or search online. How can I fix this? Windows- Python 3.4
It was okay in 3.5 when I use .pyw extension. First time I see this problem.
I always have this problem whenever I reinstall Python.
Very simple fix (at least on Windows):
1) Create a .pyw file
2) Right-click on it and select properties
3) In "Opens with:" press change
4) Navigate to your python directory and choose "pythonw.exe"
Is it possible to make a program in Python that, when run, does not actually open any window (including command prompt)?
For example, opening the program would appear to do nothing, but in reality, the program is running in the background somewhere.
Thanks!
Are you running the python program by double clicking *.py file in Windows?
Then, rename the *.py file to *.pyw.
Run it with pythonw.exe instead of python.exe.
